Organised & Systemised NOT Neat & Tidy

teach students self-organisation

How will we teach our students organisation?

My client showed this to me.

Her 11 year old son  who is a polite well behaved student and  has executive function challenges was given these 25 lines to write.

“I must be prepared for lessons”

He had lost his pencil case.

Yes, there ares still schools in England that give these forms of punishments.

How is writing lines going to teach our students how to get themselves organised?

It is demoralising and demotivating.

It does not work.

We need to look deeper than the surface. if we want to teach students self-organisation.

We need to teach working memory skills, and organisation skills.  Teach instead of punish. What are your thoughts on the matter?
